Tuesday and Thursday: second ticket for free!
Step back in time to the Rotterdam of yesteryear. To the era of imposing ocean liners, the bustle of the shipyards, and the stories of the old port districts. At the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, the port city's past comes to life once again. And a visit is particularly attractive during the quieter moments of the week: on Tuesdays and Thursdays, visitors receive a second admission ticket for free.
For many Rotterdammers and lovers of the city, the port evokes memories. Of the large ships that sailed into the city during the reconstruction, of life around the quays, and of the neighborhoods where generations of dockworkers built their stories. In the Maritime Museum, you walk along that history. You will discover, among other things, ‘the punter’, the small boat with which the dam in the Rotte once began. You will also hear stories about old Katendrecht, a neighborhood full of character and history. In addition, the museum brings life on Heijplaat from the past to life and focuses on the famous shipyards of Feijenoord. You can experience all of this in the exhibition 'Destination Port City'. Step into a virtual metro and travel through the city and the ports. A memory lies around every corner.
In the 'Offshore Experience,' you imagine yourself on board an oil rig. Through games, you discover what working at sea entails. In the exhibition 'Launch!', you learn all about the history of shipbuilding in the Netherlands, and in 'Maritieme Women,' stories of women in shipping and the port come to life. They have always been there, and they still play an important role. There is also much to discover outside the museum building. Numerous historic ships are moored in the museum harbor, which visitors can view up close and sometimes even board. In this way, the history of the Port of Rotterdam is not only told but also truly experienced.
Moreover, a museum visit is perfectly suited for a quiet moment in between. In museum café Het Lage Licht, visitors can settle down for a good cup of coffee with cake or a tasty lunch. With a view of the harbor, it is a pleasant place to rest for a moment and reminisce. Especially outside of holidays and busy periods, the museum is an oasis of calm. An ideal moment to discover stories together, wander quietly among the many objects, and then chat in the café. That is why an attractive promotion applies on Tuesdays and Thursdays: visitors receive their second ticket for free. A great opportunity to (re)discover the museum together.
