Rooftop Roetsj: slide down the roof of the Maritime Museum

Sliding off the roof of the Maritime Museum? This summer, you can! During the 10th anniversary edition of the Rotterdam Rooftop Days, our rooftop will be in the spotlight for ten days straight.

Visit a surprising rooftop exhibition, take in the sweeping views of the Coolsingel and Leuvehaven, and finish your visit with a thrilling ride down a giant slide. Prefer to stay grounded? The stairs are, of course, still open.

The Rooftop Roetsj invites you to dream about the city of the future — a place where water, greenery and buildings blend seamlessly. There’s also plenty to discover around the museum. Stroll through the historic museum harbour, grab a bite or a drink at our newly renovated museum café, and watch the sliding spectacle from our welcoming terrace.

Take it to the top!

Designed by Wim Quist in 1996, the Maritime Museum stands on the edge of the Leuvehaven (now the Maritime Museum Harbour), right where the Coolsingel meets the Blaak — in the very heart of Rotterdam. The museum forms a vital link between the city and the water that shaped it.

The triangular building is home to one of the world’s most important maritime collections. With changing exhibitions and a popular permanent children’s gallery, the museum is passionately committed to making maritime heritage accessible to everyone. Atop the building is a vast flat rooftop offering panoramic views over the harbour and the Coolsingel.

No, during the Rotterdam Rooftop Days, the Maritime Museum's rooftop is only accessible with a valid Rooftop Days ticket. You can purchase your ticket via this link.

No, a Rooftop Days ticket grants access only to the rooftop, the temporary exhibition there, and the Rooftop Roetsj (or the stairs) down. If you'd like to visit the museum as well, you'll need a separate museum ticket. You can purchase this on-site or via the Maritime Museum website.

Please note: with your Rooftop Days ticket, you receive a 50% discount on museum admission!

On the rooftop, you'll find a temporary exhibition about the museum building itself. Learn about its unique history and get a glimpse into its future, including the upcoming major renovation.

Inside the museum, explore exhibitions on the origins of Rotterdam and the development of its port, visit a family exhibition on Dutch shipbuilding, or let children aged 4 and up dive into the interactive kids' exhibition "Plons!" to learn about the future of the sea. The museum harbour also offers plenty to discover, from historic ships to cranes and other maritime objects.
