Plunge into adventure! In the hands-on kids’ expo ‘Plons! The Future of the Sea’ (ages 4-12), you dive into the underwater world. Or visit the new exhibition ‘Launch!’ (ages 8+), to learn what it takes to build a ship. Crack the code, and you’ll even get to launch it safely into the water!

Spring break colouring contest
Join our colouring contest and win a special boat tour on one of our whisper boats through the Maritime District, Rotterdam’s historic city harbours!
Last winter, winners of our colouring contest got to visit Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo), exploring the Oceanium and maybe even spotting some sea stars—just like the newest members of our Zeesterren Club!
Fantasy creature workshop
Create your own shimmering fantasy creature in our ‘Shimmerbeasts’ workshop! Before crafting your masterpiece, get inspired by a special presentation on Charles Darwin’s voyage of discovery in the entrance hall.
Follow in Darwin’s Footsteps
Did you know young researchers recently retraced Darwin’s journey aboard the Rotterdam tall ship Oosterschelde? Learn more about their adventure!
For children aged 4 to 9, exciting maritime stories are read aloud daily at 12:00, 13:00, and 15:00 in the Museum Library.
Come and listen to amazing tales of sailors, mermaids, fish, and other fascinating creatures from the vast oceans!

Embark on an adventure through Rotterdam with our brand-new kids' audiotour! Join Mees and Aunt Jane on a virtual metro ride through the exhibition ‘Destination: Port City’ and discover more about the city, the port, and the people who live there. You might even recognize some places along the way! Put on your headphones and get ready to explore.
Borrow a phone from your parent or guardian to listen to the audiotour. Simply scan the QR code at the exhibition entrance to start your journey. Oh, and… don’t forget your earbuds!
