New outdoor play terrace at children’s expo 'Plons! The future of the sea'
The popular children’s hands-on exhibition Plons! The future of the sea at the Maritime Museum Rotterdam will have a new outdoor play terrace starting Saturday, July 18. Young visitors will soon also be able to explore outside in a playful world full of imagination.
The new rooftop terrace, ready for the start of the summer holidays, will become an adventurous play area for children aged 3 to 8. Here they can climb, scramble, carry, and run while their imagination is stimulated. The outdoor area connects to the story of the indoor exhibition and focuses on a future-oriented “sea farm.”
Sea farm
Children build, discover, and play as if they are working at sea on the future. Large play elements spread across different “islands” challenge children to get to work on the sea farm, or get lost in the seaweed forest. For the youngest visitors, there is a play corner full of sea animals. At the same time, there is space for parents to relax, enjoy the view of the Rotterdam skyline, and watch young explorers create their own stories.
35 years
“With children from the city, we worked on the creation of this play terrace,” says Roland Pechtold, general director of the Maritime Museum Rotterdam. “Plons! has been a household name in Rotterdam for 35 years. For several generations, the Maritime Museum was their first museum experience. We are continuing that tradition with these innovations.”
The outdoor play terrace was made possible thanks to the many partners and sponsors of the Maritime Museum Rotterdam. Discounted tickets for the first week are already available via www.maritiemmuseum.nl
Save the date: Island hopping during the summer holidays
Due to the opening of the Plons! outdoor play terrace, the entire summer will be festive. The Maritime Museum will turn into one large island world for children aged 3 to 12. Indoors and outdoors in the museum harbor, visitors can hop from island to island. Each island offers a new adventure with its own story and discoveries. More information will follow, but one thing is certain: this summer will be one big play-and-discovery adventure!
