She in sight: Maritime Women

Sociable, passionate, skilled, enthusiastic and committed, that’s what these maritime women are! Photographer Anne Reitsma followed a pilot, a crane driver, an offshore surveyor, a Wadden Sea fisher and a tug boat entrepreneur. She photographed their work, sometimes in the wee hours of the morning, at incredible heights or in the middle of the waters. This photo expo can be seen around the outside windows of the Maritime Museum, starting March 7.

In 2025 the Maritiem Museum pays ample attention to the many women in the maritime sector. Present and past. In the past as well as now, women worked in shipbuilding, inland shipping, in the harbour or on board.

Anne Reitsma

Photographer Anne Reitsma has been succeeding in giving the grandeur of the port of Rotterdam a human face for more than twelve years. She has the talent to create images that are authentic and truly reflect the moment or person. As the permanent photographer of the World Port Days, she is at home in the maritime world and the Maritime Museum Rotterdam has entered into a collaboration with her to make women in the maritime world visible: now and in the future.
